The staff is now complete! The moderator list has been updated so congratulate the new additions! We're sorry if you wanted to be a moderator, but didn't make the cut off! :( But spaces may open up! And if they do, you'll be notified immediately. If you know you would like to be a moderator either now or in the future, you may message any of the administrators with your experience, availability, and reasons. You will be added to a waiting list, so if a spot opens up, you will be the first to be asked to fill the spot. You may then decide to accept it or not.

The Book of the Month

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
The First Installment in The Hunger Games Trilogy

Twenty-four are forced to enter. Only the winner survives. In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. Each year, the districts are forced by the Capitol to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the Hunger Games, a brutal and terrifying fight to the death - televised for all of Panem to see. Survival is second nature for sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who struggles to feed her mother and younger sister by secretly hunting and gathering beyond the fences of District 12. When Katniss steps in to take the place of her sister in the Hunger Games, she knows it may be her death sentence. If she is to survive, she must weigh survival against humanity and life against love. The Hunger Games is the first in a trilogy. The 2nd installment, Catching Fire, is available now. The third is due out August 24th, 2010.

Learn more about the trilogy by visiting the Official Scholastic Site and join in the discussions for this book here!

The Author of the Month

Suzanne Collins
Author of The Hunger Games Trilogy and The Underland Chronicles

Since 1991, Suzanne Collins has been busy writing for children’s television. She has worked on the staffs of several Nickelodeon shows, including the Emmy-nominated hit Clarissa Explains it All and The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo. Most recently she was the Head Writer for Scholastic Entertainment’s Clifford’s Puppy Days. While working on a Kids WB show called Generation O! she met children’s author James Proimos, who talked her into giving children’s books a try. Thinking one day about Alice in Wonderland, she was struck by how pastoral the setting must seem to kids who, like her own, lived in urban surroundings. In New York City, you’re much more likely to fall down a manhole than a rabbit hole and, if you do, you’re not going to find a tea party. What you might find...? Well, that’s the story of Gregor the Overlander, the first book in her five-part fantasy/war series, The Underland Chronicles. At present, Suzanne is hard at work on the third book in her sci-fi series, The Hunger Games. And has also been hired to write the screenplay for The Hunger Games Movie. She currently lives in Connecticut with her family and a pair of feral kittens they adopted from their backyard.
